BHP P118 Structural Upgrade
In order to minimise the impact on shiploading operation, TAMS used an innovative temporary jetty solution to establish access behind the Nelson Point wharf suitable for three 200t crawler cranes. The components for the 500m long jetty comprised 84 steel piles, 1000t of structural steel and 3000t of precast concrete deck panels. These items were fabricated offshore and shipped directly to Port Hedland.
The brownfields project presented significant day to day challenges working around operating shiploaders and conveyors.
The project was completed without any lost time injuries. TAMS utilised the following major plant and equipment to construct the works:
- Two IHC S-90 hydraulic piling hammers
- Three 200t crawler cranes
- 500t of temporary works access platforms
- Two 12m workboats
- 36m dumb barge
