LD Travocean Fibre Option Cable Installation
TAMS scope was to assist LD Travocean during the near shore fibre optic cable installation.
The TAMS barge, Robert Purnell was modified to accept a client supplied modular 900KW DP system, cable basket, hiab crane and cable lay system as well as a TAMS 4 point mooring system and enriched air nitrox dive spread.
Divers assisted with the cable pull, through an existing HDD conduit to shore, before the barge moved along the cable route, laying the cable onto the seabed. Once the cable lay was complete, divers assisted with deployment / operation / recovery of the trenching machine, burying the cable in the sandy seabed. Divers also used air lifts to bury the cable through sections of sand between reef projections. Where the cable transited over reef or was free spanning, divers installed cable protection and grout bags. The trenching machine / diver burial and protection combination proved to be very efficient and resulted in the project completion well ahead of schedule.
The seaward end was left with recovery rigging, ready for the offshore cable lay ship.
